What is the Crick Journal?

The Crick Journal is a monthly round up of research outputs from the Crick, highlighting all papers and preprints with a Crick corresponding &/or first author. It's an old idea with a new twist—online curated collections of papers are a common resource in many fields. They're usually topic-specific—this will be the first institute-specific resource.

James Briscoe, Principal Group Leader & Associate Research Director, who initiated the project, says

“if we are moving to a world where the role and power of conventional scientific journals is diminished, then scientists will need other ways to identify articles that we want to read. If all scientific articles are available and undifferentiated on preprint servers, what signals are available to indicate possible interest? I think institute origin could become one such signal.

I’m not expecting scientific journals to disappear any time soon, and I don’t want to undermine the role of scientific journals, but experimenting with what an institute like the Crick could do, given the changing publishing landscape, will be interesting.”
