It was an action packed week with key talks and activities including:
- An engaging talk from ‘career guru’ Corinne Mills who shared her top 5 tips for energising your career
- The Computational Technology panel discussion. The panellists, in a range of technology professions at the Crick, talked us through their career moves and gave some useful insights for those looking towards a career in technology. Some key takeaways included
- Your skills are likely to be much more transferable than you think
- Problem solving, enthusiasm and passion are prerequisites for a career in technology
- Those who make the most progress in learning are those using the skills to solve a particular problem
- Finding out everything we had always wanted to know about Translation, including the programmes, funding and support available at the Crick, what makes a patentable idea and the importance of talking to the team before any disclosure.
- Careers showcase. We had a great crowd for the Careers showcase on Wednesday with 16 external organisations attending, including the BBC, Cancer Research UK and MSD. Around 250 Crick people stopped by to explore career interests and opportunities.
- On Thursday we explored discovery without borders, hearing from Crick alumni who have made the move to PI roles in Portugal, Australia, Germany and Japan.
- Throughout the week, there were also lots of career development workshops too, covering topics such as networking, CV and interview skills, promoting your own brand and careers beyond academia.
