Carola, group leader of the Crick's Autoimmunity laboratory, spoke at this year's lecture about her findings using genomics to understand autoimmunity.

Axel Ullrich Lecture

The Axel Ullrich Lecture is named after world-renowned researcher and entrepreneur Axel Ullrich, whose research helped to develop anti-cancer drugs like Herceptin and Sutent, which have benefited cancer patients worldwide.

Carola's lecture and award

Carola was chosen by the faculty of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry to deliver the lecture in Munich on Tuesday 24 September. She also received the Axel Ullrich Medal as part of the recognition.

As well as her findings using genomics to understand autoimmunity, the lecture covered her contributions to the case of a mother wrongly convicted of killing her children.

Carola said:

This is a great honour that recognises the work of amazing scientists that have worked together in Canberra, Shanghai, and now at the Crick.
