From Monday 14 - Friday 18 June, there are lots of activities to get involved with as part of the Crick's wellbeing week, including plenty of online events that we'd like to invite our alumni members to join remotely. You'll find a full list of online activities below, and zoom links will be added as soon as they are available. Enjoy the week!
Yoga
Come and join Anna Mendelsohn for a gentle yoga session (standing moves only) in the auditorium. Anna is a qualified yoga teacher with 14 years-experience teaching mainly hatha yoga. She usually runs lunch time yoga sessions at the Living Centre. This is a great chance to try it out.
Pilates
Anastasia Photiou will be leading a calming introductory pilates session. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for exercise – leggings, jogging pants/shorts and tee shirt, non-slip socks or bare feet. If there are any health conditions that might affect the way you exercise, please let Anastasia know.
Lose yourself in a world of words with poet Paul Lyalls
Liven up your Monday afternoon and be transported by the creative energy of poet and performer Paul Lyalls! We are excited to invite Paul to be live at the Crick to lead one of his fun and fast-moving poetry workshops. Paul has been poet in residence at the Roald Dahl Museum and has worked and performed with the likes of Michael Rosen, Miranda Hart and Will Self, to name but a few. If you have a passion for words, fancy yourself a budding poet or just want to try something new, come along and enjoy the delights of seeing Paul’s poetry in action. By the end of it, Paul will have you creating extraordinary poems. Bring along your laptop or pen and paper to capture what you create. We’re pretty sure you’ll be impressed, but not lost for words….
Talk - Chief People Officer Fiona Roberts on resilience and coping strategies in challenging times
Fiona writes: ‘I have faced many challenging situations throughout my career, both personal and work related. There have been times I have been on my knees, and times I have just given up; but through the years, discovering and developing my resilience has helped me through. I have learnt to find help when I need it, ensure I have people around me who balance out my skills, and accept the bad days and enjoy the good ones. I have learnt to prevail, to pick myself up, and achieve what I aim to do. This journey has been full of self-learning and discovery. Through taking the opportunity to share some of my learning, I hope that I will help others with the challenges life throws at us!’
Talk - Chief Operating Officer Sam Barrell on finding a sense of purpose in work and practical lessons and tips for managing workload
Sam writes: ‘A strong sense of purpose has always guided me in my career. Not only has this sense motivated me from the time I realised that I wanted to be a doctor, but it has also helped to give me resilience and has guided me in taking difficult decisions. An essential element in being able to maintain and pursue this sense of purpose is being able to effectively manage your workload. In this talk, I would like to share some of my reflections on my sense of purpose and also some of the practical lessons and tips that I have learnt along the way for effectively managing my workload.’
