Crick Insight lectures are delivered by public figures who have an interest in science, but come from different walks of life. Occasional but inspirational talks, they aim to inform and inspire discussion beyond the Crick’s immediate research.
This month, we welcome Chris Stark Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee to give the first insight lecture of the autumn - "Delivering Net Zero: research and evidence priorities for the UK Climate Change Committee"
The CCC is the UK’s independent adviser on tackling climate change. Established under the Climate Change Act 2008, its role is to advise the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets and to report to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
Chris Stark joined the CCC as Cheif Executive in April 2018, and of his appointment he said "I regard this as one of the ‘big gigs’ in this field.". Chris will give an overview of the latest publications and upcoming research programme as the CCC gears up for the Seventh Carbon Budget, the Fourth Climate Change Risk Assessment and the arrival of a new Chairman.
Topics will span multiple sectors, addressing the interconnecting challenges across mitigation and adaptation in the transition to Net Zero.
