At this careers talk, former Crick researchers will share their experiences of moving from research institutes to work in policy and regulatory affairs. for anyone interested in making a similar move.
Martin Carkett completed his PhD under Malcolm Logan in 2015. After leaving the Crick, he joined HM Treasury where he spent 5 years working in a variety of roles, before joining the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change as their Policy Lead for Science and Innovation.
Katherine Exelby worked under James Briscoe and received her PhD in 2019. She went on to join the Department of Education, where she has served in several roles, currently as the Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Education.
They will speak about their own career paths, their current roles, the challenges and rewards of working in the sector, and any additional information that would be useful to scientists thinking about making a similar move.
