On Friday 5 July 2024, we welcomed 39 summer and sandwich students who joined Crick research labs, STPs and operation teams.

As part of aim to offer an inclusive culture that nurtures diverse talent, we have continued to run a widening participation summer student training programme. This year, 19 motivated students joined our nine-week summer programme which pairs undergraduates with postdocs who will train and supervise the students.

In addition, after last year's success, we have continued our partnership with the 10,000 interns foundation and appointed 9 students, who also joined the Crick summer programme in our STPs and operations teams.

Our nine-week Summer Student Training Programme provides undergraduates with the opportunity to get hands-on training and experience in scientific research and find out what a career in biomedical research entails. It also gives students an opportunity to develop new skills and training in Operations teams, and to experience how different groups support research in the Crick.

Along with our summer students, we also welcomed 11 undergraduate students onto our sandwich programme. These students have joined one of the Crick’s research groups or science technology platforms for 12 months, working on a defined research project.

Both programmes provide a supportive and stimulating work environment, and a wide range of professional development and transferable skills training. These undergraduate student programmes will end with a student symposium, where all students will present their work at the Crick.
