Crick Journal

The Crick Journal will provide a monthly roundup of research outputs from the Crick. It will highlight all papers and preprints with a Crick corresponding &/or first author, so you can keep up to date with what’s happening at the Crick.

It's an old idea with a new twist—online curated collections of papers are a common resource in many fields. They're usually topic-specific— the Crick Journal will be the first institute-specific resource.

“If we are moving to a world where the role and power of conventional scientific journals is diminished, then scientists will need other ways to identify articles that we want to read.

If all scientific articles are available and undifferentiated on preprint servers, what signals are available to indicate possible interest? I think institute origin could become one such signal.

I’m not expecting scientific journals to disappear any time soon, and I don’t want to undermine the role of scientific journals, but experimenting with what an institute like the Crick could do, given the changing publishing landscape, will be interesting.” James Briscoe, Principal Group Leader & Associate Research Director

You can find the inaugural issue for January 2024 here.

The roundup will be open to anyone to read so you can share with your network – simply head to CrickConnect news and select the Crick Journal section.

If you’re currently at the Crick or a Crick alumni, register for CrickConnect and you’ll receive a monthly newsletter highlighting new ‘issues’ of the Crick Journal. Register here.
