We Go Way Back - Discover how ancient ancestors live on in our DNA opens in the Manby Gallery on Thursday 16 July. The exhibition shines a light on the pioneering work of the Skoglund Lab and others in the field, revealing how ancient DNA research is transforming our understanding of human history - from hidden ancestry and migration to the origins of disease.
Visitors will be able to explore a range of interactive, hands-on experiences, puzzle-solving exhibits, even one with giant teeth, and a shadow puppet theatre that will take you back in time. Colleagues are welcome to pop-down at any time to visit the exhibition when it is open, and we’ll also be holding a special private view for staff - date to be announced.
Alongside the exhibition, a packed programme of events will bring the topic to life from different perspectives. Highlights include panel discussions with high-profile speakers such as Mary Beard, family-friendly activities, and so much more. We’ll also be running our ever-popular Sip of Science series, giving researchers the chance to chat informally with visitors about their work in the gallery. We can’t wait to welcome back the public to our gallery. We’ve missed them.
About our exhibitions programme
The Manby Gallery hosts a vibrant programme of free public exhibitions that bring science to life and give visitors unique insights into our research. The space has been temporarily closed since November in order to house the Freezer Farm during an important upgrade, and we're thrilled to be reopening in the summer. The gallery is located next to Reception, and inside you can also find the Gallery Café, which serves drinks and cold snacks. These spaces are typically open to the public from Wednesday to Saturday each week - you can view up to date opening hours on our website.
